Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Hone the critical, analytical, writing, and speaking skills necessary to become an engaged citizen.

As a Communication major at UMass Amherst, you will develop analytical abilities that help you understand how communication works, whether in an argument between friends, a political speech, communication through social media or the web, cross-cultural interactions, or a film or television program. You'll learn outside of the classroom through study-abroad placements, domestic exchange programs, and internships to help launch your career.

Much of our undergraduate curriculum is organized around five areas:

Additional course offerings that focus on communication skills include public speaking, writing and screenwriting, research methods, leadership and service learning, and video production.

Our graduates go on to a range of professions in media, government, education, and the corporate and nonprofit worlds or continue on to graduate school in the social sciences and humanities, public policy, law, and education.
